General Information

What is the Ned Kelly Discovery Hub?

The Ned Kelly Discovery Hub is an immersive cultural and historical centre located in Glenrowan, Victoria—site of the infamous 1880 siege that marked the end of Ned Kelly’s bushranging days. Opened in September 2023, the Hub offers a modern, interactive experience that delves into the life, legend, and legacy of one of Australia’s most controversial figures. It also houses the Visitor Information Centre for the Rural City of Wangaratta

Lions Park, 45 Gladstone Street, Glenrowan, Victoria

What are the opening hours?

Open daily from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Closed Christmas Day

How much does it cost to visit?

Adults: $5

Concession: $3

Children under 17: FREE

Do I need to book in advance?

No booking is required for individuals or small groups.

For large groups, please call 1800 801 065 to arrange a booking.

 

For Schools and Group Visits

Do you offer school group tours or programs?

Yes! We welcome school groups to explore this significant period in Australian bushranger history.


How do I book an excursion for my school?

Email: tourism@wangaratta.vic.gov.au Or visit Education tab on our website for online booking info. A School Information Pack will be provided.

 

Is there an education program aligned with the curriculum?

Yes. Worksheets can be provided in advance or on the day.

 

How many students can you accommodate?

We can host large groups by dividing them into three groups of up to 25 students. Larger group options include incorporating the Glenrowan Historic Siege Walk.


Are there toilets and lunch facilities for students?

Yes. Public toilets are onsite. Glenrowan Lions Park offers green space, picnic tables, and BBQ facilities.


 

Accessibility

Is the Hub wheelchair accessible?

Yes. Wide doorways and hallways (minimum 1.5 meters wide), plus a lift to the viewing platform ensure we are accessible.


Are there accessible toilets?

Yes. Fully compliant accessible toilets are onsite. However, we do not have a hoist lift.


Do you cater to visitors with sensory needs or neurodiversity?

Yes. We can reduce sound or adjust the environment on request—please notify staff at the front counter.


Can we request adjustments for our group?

Absolutely. Early or late visits can be arranged for specific needs. Contact us to discuss how we can assist.


 

Experience and Exhibits

What can I see and do at the Hub?

Explore the Glenrowan Siege story through interactive displays and short films.


How long should I plan to spend there?

Minimum of 20 minutes. Up to 45 minutes if you’d like to read and explore all displays.


Is there an interactive or audiovisual experience?

Yes. Two mini-theatres:

  • Theatre 1: Six 2-minute videos on early settlers, police, bushrangers, and more.
  • Theatre 2: An 8-minute short film about the night of the siege.


Are the exhibits suitable for children?

Yes. The displays are engaging and appropriate for children.


 

Facilities and Services

Is there a gift shop or café on site?

No. But several cafes and a large souvenir shop are within a short 2–3 minute walk.


Are there public toilets available?

Yes. There are 8 public toilets onsite, including accessible options.


Is there parking for cars and buses?

Yes.

  • Bus Parking along Woolshed Road
  • Caravan Parking in service lane Gladstone Street.
  • Disabled Parking in front of the Hub
  • General Parking on surrounding streets


Can we take photos inside the Hub?

Yes! Be mindful of other visitors and ask permission if they’re in your photos. Tag us on social media using @NedKellyDiscoveryHub or #NKDH.


 

Local Attractions

What else can I do in Glenrowan?

  • Kate’s Cottage: A museum that delves into the Kelly story in greater detail, complete with a recreated blacksmith and cottage. 
  • Kellyland: An interactive animatronic display that brings the Kelly story and the Glenrowan Siege to life.
  • Glenrowan Historic Siege Walk: a short self-guided walking trail that takes you around the significant sites of the Glenrowan Siege.


Is the Historic Siege Site nearby?

Yes. The walk starts right outside the Hub. From the viewing platform, you can see the Siege Site and use maps to guide your visit.


Do you provide maps or visitor information?

Yes. The Hub also operates as the Visit Wangaratta Visitor Information Centre. Our friendly team can help plan your visit and answer questions.

Can the Hub be hired for private events?

Currently, we don’t offer private event hire, but we’re happy to chat and see how we can assist with your plans.


Is the Hub open on public holidays?

Yes. We’re open every day except Christmas Day.


Are pets allowed within the Ned Kelly Discovery Hub?

We welcome registered service animals within the hub. Pets and other animals are unfortunately unable to visit with in you within the hub but are welcome within Lions Park adjacent the hub.
